20th summer of giving off road tours in the San Juan Mountains. You would think that after all those years I would have lost my enthusiasm for this area, but that is the magic of these mountains. I thought it was just me, but I have met to many folks that have fallen in passionate love with this area, that there must be more to it than I can explain. These mountains are the most extreme, rugged and beautiful mountains in the U.S as far as I am concerned, often refereed to as the Switzerland of America. In a way we are blessed by the abundance of Mining that took place here, for one are the cool examples of early architecture hanging off of some precarious locations, but these folks also cut roads up to there mines, providing access for many,were there would other wise not be any roads. There is also the curse, according to legend when the Ute Indians where forced out of the land they loved, the witch doctors left the area with a curse, any one who ever steps foot into this area is destined to return, or to never be happy where they are.
